This line plot shows the number of correct response for each student .

**maximum**- The largest amount; the greatest number in a set of data.

**minimum**- The smallest amount; the smallest number in a set of data.

**mode**- The value or values that occur most often in a set of data.

**partial-differences method**- A way to subtract in which differences are computed for each place value(ones, tens, hundreds, etc.) separately. The partial differences are then combined to give the final answer. This is just one algorithm for subtraction.

**range**- The difference between the maximum and the minimum in a data set.

**tally chart**- A table that uses marks, called tallies, to show how many times each value appears in a data set.

**trade-first method**- A subtraction algorithm in which all trades are done before any subtractions are carried out. We affectionately refer to this method as the "mom and pop method," since most parents learned how to subtract this way.
